Description

This 1972 Citroën DS21 Pallas is said to have been delivered new to its original owner in France before being imported to the US, and it has remained registered in California since 1972. The seller’s father acquired the car in 2010, and subsequent work included a repaint in blue, replacement of the brown leather upholstery, and a rebuild of the 2,175cc inline-four and four-speed semi-automatic transaxle. The seller assumed ownership in 2021, in 2022 car was sold to a new owner in San Diego Ca. and equipment includes 15” wheels, a hydropneumatic suspension, and a push-button radio. This DS21 Pallas is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, workshop manuals, service records, spare parts, and a clean California title.

The body was repainted in blue with a white roof in 2010 and features US-specification headlights, taillights, and turn signals. Additional features include Pallas side trim, chrome side mirrors, and stainless-steel bumpers with rubber overriders. The rear license plate panel wears a painted registration number said to indicate that the original owner took delivery in France before the car was imported to the US.

Painted 15” steel wheels wear stainless-steel full covers and are mounted with 195/75 Goodyear Wrangler ST tires. The car rides on a self-leveling, height-adjustable hydropneumatic suspension with parallel semi-leading arms up front and trailing arms out back. Stopping power is provided by inboard-mounted front discs and rear drums. The right front wheel hub was replaced and the hydraulic pump, front brake calipers, and steering rack were rebuilt in 2021.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in brown leather with matching door panels and tan carpets. Additional appointments include a removable center armrest for the front seats, stainless-steel sill plates, grab handles on the B-pillars, padded floor mats, and a clock. The seller notes that the air conditioning system and the radio are inoperative.

The single-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer flanked by a warning light cluster, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and supplementary gauges. The lever atop the steering column operates valves that control gear selection and clutch engagement via the central hydraulic system. The five-digit odometer shows 95k miles, approximately 5k of which have been added under current ownership.

The 2,175cc inline-four is mounted behind the transaxle and features a two-barrel Weber carburetor. The spare tire is stored ahead of the radiator and holds a tool kit. Work performed in 2021 and 2022 included:

  • Replacing pistons and liners
  • Rebuilding the cylinder head
  • Replacing the carburetor
  • Rebuilding the wiring harness
  • Replacing the spark plugs and wires
  • Rodding out the radiator and replacing coolant hoses
  • Retrofitting a K&N air filter to fit within the factory housing
  • The air conditioning compressor and condensers have been removed and will accompany the car.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed semi-automatic transaxle. The clutch was replaced and the transaxle, centrifugal regulator, and axles were rebuilt in 2021. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery.

Manufacturer’s literature, workshop manuals, and service records dating to 2007 are included in the sale.
